Transition Guides

A transition guide is a transfer planning resource developed by Iowa community college and university instructors and advisers in a specific academic discipline. The guide is provided for use by students, faculty, advisers, and the public in planning for a successful transfer experience from an Iowa Community College to one of Iowa's public universities.

Content includes:

  1. an explanation of basic understandings of key discipline principles needed by the transfer student upon arrival at the university;
  2. a listing of majors within the discipline available at Iowa's public universities and career areas to which those majors lead;
  3. list of advisories for students and instructors to ensure a successful transfer experience;
  4. a "to do" list for the transfer student upon arrival at the university to help ensure a successful academic experience.

The Biological Sciences Transition Guide is the first transition guide developed by Iowa's public colleges and universities; other transition guides will be developed in the future.
